Deerfield Beach High School Newspaper Nails State Journalism Competition

This just in from the magnet coordinator at Deerfield Beach High School: the communications and broadcast arts magnet program brought home top honors for the school's newspaper, The Pathfinder, from the Florida Scholastic Press Association Convention in Orlando.

In addition to the award for top high school newspaper in the state, The Pathfinder won kudos for layout and design as well as for writing and editing.

Driftwood Middle School Named 2013 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School

Driftwood Middle School was named a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon school by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Chair of White House Council on Environmental Quality Nancy Sutley, and Acting Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency Bob Persiacepe. Driftwood Middle is among the 64 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools honored for their exemplary efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, promote better health, and ensure effective environmental education, including civics and green career pathways.

The Theatre Program at Parkway Middle School of the Arts, the ONLY Performing and Visual Arts Middle School Magnet in Broward County, is taking students way out of the box to explore Shakespeare in a new and vibrant way; they will perform the Scottish tragedy Macbeth amid the art on display across three stories at the 1310 Gallery in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Magnet Schools hold Open Houses and Web Chats During the Month of January

Thinking about a magnet program for your child but your not sure which one to select? Broward County Public Schools is offering two ways that you may learn about a magnet program. You may visit a magnet school during the month of January to learn more about the magnet theme, curriculum, and activities available with that magnet program.  Beginning January 9 through January 31st, magnet schools in Broward County are welcoming parents and students to tour the school and speak with coordinators and teachers about the programs.
