What is a military academy?

The military academy at Hollywood Hills High School is a distinguished magnet program where students are prepared for the rigors of college life while building their self confidence, self-esteem and the ability to lead others.

What are the academic requirements for the military academy?

  • Students who apply to the military academy must have a grade point average of 2.0 and a Level 3 or greater FCAT score in reading and math.
  • A student interview is required. A school representative will contact either the parent or applicant to schedule the interview.
  • Students must maintain a grade point average of 2.5 while in the military academy.

When will I know the status of my application?
A computerized random selection process will be utilized and parents will be notified via U.S. mail regarding their child’s status for the program.

Will I automatically be registered at the magnet school after I am accepted into the program?
No. You must register at the magnet school following acceptance into the military academy. A representative from the military academy will mail an acceptance letter to designated students, indicating a designated registration period. All students must register during that time period to guarantee a spot in the program.

If my child was accepted into a different magnet program, can they still apply to the military academy?
Yes. If you are interested in applying to the military academy, you may submit an application for consideration.

If my child is accepted in the military academy is he/she enrolled in the U.S. military?
No. Hollywood Hills High School Military Academy is a magnet program available through Broward County Public Schools. Students have not been recruited, nor are they required to enroll in the United States military.

Is transportation provided for this magnet program?
Transportation is provided by the Broward County School District to magnet schools/programs for magnet students who reside more than 2 miles from the school based on designated Broward County maps.

Is there a cost for transportation if my child is accepted?
Student must live South of Sunrise Boulevard to qualify for free transportation. Students North of Sunrise Boulevard may apply but must provide their own transportation.
