Academy of College Readiness and Vocational Studies with Emphasis on Pre-Law and Pre-Med

The Academy of College Readiness and Vocational Studies with an Emphasis on Pre-Med and Pre-Law Program will prepare students for collegiate studies through a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that is integrated with professional medical and law terminology as well as standards emphasizing integrity, communication, academic excellence, global connections and a passion for life-long learning. Students have the opportunity to think critically, creatively and to care about the community with mature attitudes toward academic studies that enable successful completion with a holistic approach. The Academy’s focus incorporates direct instruction, problem and inquiry-based learning, as well as scientific methodology in daily instruction that embraces and nurtures diversity and multiculturalism as it facilitates student growth and development in real-world learning situations.

Advanced Academic Academy: A3

The Advanced Academic Academy: A3 is designed to offer academically talented students the opportunity to attend rigorous courses, while earning high-school credits, thus making them eligible for dual enrollment in high school.  Students who complete this innovative program can earn up to eight high school credits.  The Advanced Academic Academy: A3 will offer students the opportunity to earn high school credits in HOPE, English I Honors, Spanish I and II, Debate Honors, Geometry Honors, Algebra I Honors, and Biology I Honors.

Advanced Achiever’s Academy

Olsen Middle School has developed the Advanced Achiever’s Academy to increase the level of academic rigor and educational opportunities available to students beginning at the sixth grade. Olsen Middle School will enable teachers, parents, and students to work collaboratively within the South Broward Innovation Zone to facilitate accelerated curriculum, increased opportunities for students, and ease transition academia as students matriculate from elementary to the middle school level. Successful completion of the Advanced Achiever’s Academy will result in the student completing 5-7 high school credits by the 8th grade.

College Prep

The College Prep Program is a rigorous academic program taught by gifted endorsed teachers that include advanced coursework in literature, mathematics, foreign language, humanities, and the sciences which prepares student for success in high school Advanced Placement (AP) courses and college-level work. This innovative program includes virtual field trips through Distance Learning, project-based learning incorporating technology through GLIDES, and field trips to Florida colleges and universities. Upon completion of the program, your child may earn up to six high school credits.

Environmental Science

The Environmental Science Program offers the motivated student the chance to become a pioneer in reaching out to discover and address the diverse environmental concerns of our community. Students explore and evaluate the many challenges and concerns related to their environment: wild life preservation, ecosystem restoration, preservation of the Everglades and wetlands, recycling, aquatic life protection and energy conservation. This program is designed to provide students with the critical life management skills necessary to make sound decisions and take positive actions to achieve a sustainable environment and to preserve South Florida’s natural resources.

Fine Arts Initiative

The Westglades Middle/Stoneman Douglas High Schools Fine Arts Initiative combines community and stakeholder engagement, to provide a comprehensive Fine Arts innovative program. A major program goal is to attract and retain students residing in school boundaries. The study of the arts can significantly boost student achievement, improve behavior, and prepare students for college and careers. This program will develop our students’ creativity and innovative critical thinking skills for completing and succeeding in a global economy.

The Junior Advanced and Digital Academy, JADA

The Junior Advanced and Digital Academy (JADA) provides gifted and high achieving students with the opportunity to accelerate their learning and earn 9 or more high school credits while still in middle school. Students may choose to take face-to-face classes or take online courses through a partnership with Broward Virtual School.  All students in the JADA program are enrolled in core classes that focus upon strategies to read, write, and think rigorously and critically at a level required by colleges and careers. Students in the JADA program will be exposed to STEM and project-based learning which integrates Florida State Standards as they create projects and explore career fields in the areas of science, math, engineering, history, and technology. Upon completion of the JADA program, students will be prepared to succeed in Advanced Placement courses offered in high school.

Linking Education and Employment Outcomes (LEEO)

The LEEO project is a unique educational opportunity for students to become certified in various vocations in tandem with becoming employment ready. Broward College and Citrix Corporation are in partnership with the LEEO project helping to raise the standards on vocational programs, as well as providing real-life working situations through project-based learning. Strong mapping between academic success and life-long learning is linked to the collegial relationships. Our students will receive a scope of educational practical experiences beyond regular middle school standards to be forerunners in career and college readiness.

Performing Arts Academy

New Renaissance Middle School’s Performing Arts Academy is designed for students who are committed to enhancing their academic, intellectual and philosophical development through the systematic study of music, dance, theater and video production. Students who are invited to join the Performance Arts Academy will be engaged in a rigorous and in-depth study of dance history, stage performance, theatrical and video production, and music appreciation courses. Students will experience theoretical concepts in real world social and cultural situations through community service projects, scholarly presentations, academic debates, and innovative field trips intended to prepare students for the competitive nature of a global society.

Pre-AP/College Academy

The Pre-AP/College Academy Innovative Program at Millennium Middle School will provide students the opportunity to take high school level courses while in middle school. The students will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of high school level courses, such as Algebra, Geometry, World Geography and Biology. Pre-AP classes lay the groundwork and foundation for success not only in the AP program at the high school, but ultimately in college course work itself.

Gulfstream Academy of Hallandale Beach K-8 will be the first and only certified RhinoFabStudio™ center in South Florida. A certified RhinoFabStudio™ (fabrication laboratory) in an Authorized Rhino Training Center (ARTC) with a workshop equipped with an array of Rhino compatible software and digital fabrication tools. Incorporating RhinoFabStudio™ curriculum will enable the students and community to be highly skilled individuals who are college and career ready.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

Crystal Lake Middle School is now an Engineering STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) school. The focus of this program will be for the students to learn the engineering process and apply that process to real-world hands-on experiences. Through this form of learning in the classroom, students will be attaining necessary science, technology, engineering, and mathematics skills that will help them become productive members of the 21st century. Students will be provided with an enriching and differentiated classroom that includes a high-standard and rigorous curriculum that will meet the needs of the individual student.
