Academy of College Readiness and Vocational Studies with Emphasis on Pre-Law and Pre-Med

The Academy of College Readiness and Vocational Studies with an Emphasis on Pre-Med and Pre-Law Program will prepare students for collegiate studies through a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that is integrated with professional medical and law terminology as well as standards emphasizing integrity, communication, academic excellence, global connections and a passion for life-long learning. Students have the opportunity to think critically, creatively and to care about the community with mature attitudes toward academic studies that enable successful completion with a holistic approach. The Academy’s focus incorporates direct instruction, problem and inquiry-based learning, as well as scientific methodology in daily instruction that embraces and nurtures diversity and multiculturalism as it facilitates student growth and development in real-world learning situations.

Aeronautical Sciences

Aeronautical Science provides students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to move directly into a challenging and rewarding career in the aviation industry. Students have the opportunity to research and explore the concepts needed to develop a colony in space, another planet, or become an astronaut.

College and Career Readiness Program

The College & Career Readiness (CCR) Program is comprised of two tiers. The first tier is JADA (Junior Accelerated Digital Academy). A student who follows this tier could graduate middle school with up to seven high school credits.  The second tier is JACCE (Junior Academy for College and Career Exploration), a program created and designed to offer students strategies to read, write, and think rigorously and critically at a level required by colleges and careers.  All students enrolled in JACCE will complete a CCR elective.  Students in this elective will be exposed to STEM/project-based learning which integrate Common Core State Standards while creating projects and exploring career fields in the areas of science, math, engineering, history, and technology. In support of the District’s Health and Wellness Initiative students are also given the option to complete HOPE online for high school credit. Upon completion of the CCR program, students will be prepared to enroll in and succeed in Advanced Placement courses offered in high school.

College Prep

The College Prep Program is a rigorous academic program taught by gifted endorsed teachers that include advanced coursework in literature, mathematics, foreign language, humanities, and the sciences which prepares student for success in high school Advanced Placement (AP) courses and college-level work. This innovative program includes virtual field trips through Distance Learning, project-based learning incorporating technology through GLIDES, and field trips to Florida colleges and universities. Upon completion of the program, your child may earn up to six high school credits.

Environmental Science

The Environmental Science Program offers the motivated student the chance to become a pioneer in reaching out to discover and address the diverse environmental concerns of our community. Students explore and evaluate the many challenges and concerns related to their environment: wild life preservation, ecosystem restoration, preservation of the Everglades and wetlands, recycling, aquatic life protection and energy conservation. This program is designed to provide students with the critical life management skills necessary to make sound decisions and take positive actions to achieve a sustainable environment and to preserve South Florida’s natural resources.

Health & Wellness

Students in this Academy prepare for careers in preventative medicine, nursing, personal fitness training, environmental wellness, nutritional counseling, sports medicine, and recreational and managed health care. The Academy of Health and Wellness brings together the benefits of a traditional curriculum with all aspects of wellness including physical, emotional, social and environmental wellness. Through language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, students examine the importance of developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

MicroSociety

The MicroSociety program provides an innovative school design where students create a microcosm of the real world. Young entrepreneurs produce goods and services, elected officials establish laws, Crime Stoppers keep the peace, judges arbitrate disputes, and reporters track down stories. All citizens earn wages in the school’s “micro-currency,” invest in product ideas, deposit and borrow money from “Micro” banks, and pay taxes, tuition and rent.

Performing Arts Academy

New Renaissance Middle School’s Performing Arts Academy is designed for students who are committed to enhancing their academic, intellectual and philosophical development through the systematic study of music, dance, theater and video production. Students who are invited to join the Performance Arts Academy will be engaged in a rigorous and in-depth study of dance history, stage performance, theatrical and video production, and music appreciation courses. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

Crystal Lake Middle School is now an Engineering S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) school. The focus of this program will be for the students to learn the engineering process and apply that process to real-world hands-on experiences. Through this form of learning in the classroom, students will be attaining necessary science, technology, engineering, and mathematics skills that will help them become productive members of the 21st century.
