Deerfield Beach High School Newspaper Nails State Journalism Competition

This just in from the magnet coordinator at Deerfield Beach High School: the communications and broadcast arts magnet program brought home top honors for the school's newspaper, The Pathfinder, from the Florida Scholastic Press Association Convention in Orlando.

In addition to the award for top high school newspaper in the state, The Pathfinder won kudos for layout and design as well as for writing and editing.

Moreover, a timed, writing and design competition launched as soon as the student journalists arrived at the Orlando competition saw The Pathfinder team place first in Team Newspaper On-the-Spot Contest.

Individuals brought home honors as well. Senior India Edouard's editorial won a first place award while Brandon Carter placed first in On-theSpot infographics and Gabriel Sanchez took a second place award in the on-the-spot team newspaper photography competition.

As for adviser Jeff Romance? He didn't go home empty handed. The team advisor won the FSPA Platinum Key for 20 years of service as an journalism advisor.
