Broward County Public Schools Receive 2018 National Magnet Schools of America Merit Awards

Ten Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) were named by Magnet Schools of America (MSA) as 2018 Magnet Schools of Excellence and Magnet Schools of Distinction

MSA’s National Merit Awards program honors the top magnet schools in the United States. These awards recognize magnet schools that demonstrate commitment to high academic standards, curriculum innovation, successful desegregation and diversity efforts, and consistent delivery of high quality educational services to all stakeholders.

Liberty Elementary School is in the top five running in the nation for the Dr. Ronald P. Simpson Distinguished Merit Award, considered the most prestigious merit award.

  • Apollo Middle School - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
  • Atlantic West Elementary School - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Museum
  • Attucks Middle School - Cambridge
  • Beachside Montessori Village K-8 - Montessori
  • Fort Lauderdale High School - Cambridge
  • Fort Lauderdale High School - Pre-Law & Public Affairs
  • New River Middle School - Marine Science
  • Plantation Middle School - International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program
  • South Plantation High School - Environmental Science and Everglades Restoration

Leona Miracola, Director of Innovative Programs, stated, "We are so proud of our magnet schools for being awarded by Magnet School of America with these outstanding achievements." Recognition of the schools will occur at the 36th Magnet Schools of America Conference in April in Chicago, Illinois. School representatives will receive a plaque during an awards ceremony that is the culmination of the conference.
